We are here for you and your child. We will have FUN! EXPLORE AND LEARN a few new things together. From singing and tumbling to making a mess to developing language, your children will have a prepared and loving learning environment with us.
Reading – Writing – Math
Reading and Writing
We start the reading and writing process by meeting your child first. Getting to know their learning needs and styles is crucial to us. We invite you to choose a day and time for your child to come in and be part of a free assessment.
We are inspired by different developmental theorists, among them, Maria Montessori, Piaget and the Communicative Approach theory.
We use four main methods to teach reading and writing:
- Phonics
- Look and say
- Language experience
- Approach and context support
In Math:
We believed that people are naturally inclined to create order, to organize, to observe relationships and quantify patterns. With the proper guidance and nurturing, everyone can develop the ability to reason and to calculate.
We teach math in order from concrete to abstract which makes math fun and interactive for kids. Instead of just numbers on papers, we bring math concepts to children through fun, interactive objects that demonstrate math through shapes, quantities and colors.
Our approach for Math is based entirely on the child development theory and problem solving.
Spanish - French - Italian (4 & up)
We aim to develop students’ overall communicative competence, which includes not only grammatical accuracy but also fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary use, and cultural awareness. Students are encouraged to communicate meaningfully and effectively, even if they make errors.
We integrated skills: The communicative approach emphasizes the integration of the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Rather than teaching these skills in isolation, they are interconnected and practiced together in authentic language use situations.
We contextualized learning: Language is taught in meaningful contexts, such as discussing a specific topic, describing real-life situations, or engaging in interactive tasks. This helps students understand how language is used in different situations and develops their ability to adapt their language to various contexts.
We encourage task-based learning: Tasks and activities are used to promote meaningful communication. Students are given tasks that simulate real-life situations and require them to use the language to achieve a specific goal. This helps students see the relevance of language learning and motivates them to use the language.
The focus is on the student as an active participant in the learning process. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, engage in collaborative activities, and express their opinions and ideas.
AFTER SCHOOL
PICK UP WITH CARE
We pick up from your child’s school between 2:30pm- 3:30pm to any of our after school programs.
We transport your child:
- By foot in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
- By car in the Winter and rainy conditions.
From 2:30pm to 3:30pm your child will be either having a snack (child must bring his own snack, no nuts allowed) if he needs to or working on sensorial activities until the class starts.
Ages 3 to 11 years old.
Schools: Scandi School, Brunswick School, OLC and P.S. 3 (111 Bright Street) starting on Jan 4, 2024.
Our two hour after school classes start at 3:45pm and end at 5:45pm
Requirements to be part of the pick up program:
- Your child must be enrolled in any of our after school classes.
- If the school your child attends requires a list of designated people to pick up the kids, please make sure the school has been notified ahead about our staff picking them up to avoid delays as our staff needs to make sure all kids have been picked up at the proper time.
- Any extra time after the last class end would have a cost of $20. The child must be picked up by 6:00 pm the latest.
